There are 2 SnapScan 310 types: 310 S (SCSI) and 310p (parallel port)

While installing drivers on XP I have the warning that the software doesn't have the "digital signature"; can this harm my system?

When installing drivers on Windows XP you can have the warning that this software doesn't have the "digital signature" that XP needs to work properly. You have the choice to continue or stop the installation. Click on the "Continue Anyway" button, the installation will not harm or destabilize your system.

"Please connect or switch on your scanner" appairs when I start ScanWise

  • connect the scanner with the PC and switch the scanner on.
  • Start/ Control Panel/ System/ Hardware tab/ Device Manager/ Look for the scanner in imaging devices (scanners/ cameras). If you can see an exclamation mark next to the scanner, this means that the scanner is not installed well.
  • Click righ mouse button on the scanner, select uninstall to remove the drivers.
  • Uninstall ScanWise (Start/ Control Panel/ Software)
  • disconnect scanner
  • install ScanWise software again (last Agfa software/drivers: http://www.agfa.com/digicam_scanner_drivers/)
  • connect and switch on scanner
  • on Windows XP you can have the warning that this software doesn't have the "digital signature" (Windows Logo test) that XP needs to work properly. I have installed ScanWise on Windows 2000 or XP. I have trouble running ScanWise when I am not logged in as an Administrator, but logged in with a normal user account. ScanWise will come up with a message in Windows 2000: "The application is unable to initialize and will close." on Windows XP there is no message, ScanWise just cannot be launched.

The user account used for scanning must belong to the "Power Users" group or the "Administrators" group. The scanner will not work with a normal user account or a guest account.
There is no workaround and there will be no fix for this.

FotoLook works only when logged in as Administrator on my Windows 2000 or NT4 system, the program terminates with an "I/O Error" when I try running it as a normal user. How can I fix this?

FotoLook 3.6 installs itself under \WINNT\twain_32\LOOK3_60.00 and it needs write access to this directory. Depending on your user rights, this is not always the case.

To change the user's access rights:
1. Log in as Administrator.
2. Locate the FotoLook folder.
e.g. C:\WINNT\twain_32\LOOK3_60.00
3. Right click on this folder and choose Properties.
4. Click on the Security tab.
5. Select the user you want to assign access rights to.
6. Make sure this user has modify, read, & execute, list folder contents, read and write permissions.
7. Click "Apply" and "OK".

The user you selected should now be able to scan. If you do not have sufficient access rights to perform this procedure, contact your system administrator.
On WindowsXP, there is no problem, also limited users can scan (this is not the case for ScanWise)

Where can I find an OCR application to use with my scanner?

The OCR software that came with some Agfa scanners is not manufactured by Agfa, therefore have a look at the following websites to obtain a suitable OCR-engine:
http://www.omnipage.com
http://www.readiris.com

Which SCSI card do I need for my scanner?(PC)

You own a SCSI scanner but you don't have a SCSI card? In that case you are free to buy a SCSI card, you can find them in most computer stores. Adaptec is the most reliable brand for use with Agfa scanners.

Which version of Mac OS X do I need to run FotoLook 3.6 for Mac OS X?

You need Mac OS X 10.1 or 10.2.1 (not 10.2) or later (till 10.2.8) The startup disk should be HFS+ formatted (NOT UFS). FotoLook 3.6 doesn't work on 10.3 or later.

Is there a Photoshop plug-in for ScanWise/ FotoLook?

For ScanWise there is a plug-in for Classic and OSX. The plug-ins are included in the ScanWise-package that you can download in the software section.

For FotoLook there is only a plug-in for Classic, not for OSX. Since Photoshop for Mac OS X was not available when we released our last software in september 2001 before closing the CDI scanner and digital camera department, we could not provide this plug-in. It will not be released any more in the future. The Classic plug-in is included in the FotoLook-package that you can download in the software section.

How do I verify the scanner connection on OS X?

A basic check can be done with the Apple System Profiler which is in your Applications folder. Start it and select the 'Devices and Volumes' tab.

For SCSI:
Click on the triangle(s) next to the IOSCSIParallel Device label and verify that your scanner is visible. If it is not visible: make sure your SCSI scanner is 'ready' when you start Mac OS X, make sure you have the latest driver for your card, and check our readme files to see if the card is supported by Agfa. Verify that your SCSI card is visible in the PCI section.

For FireWire:
The scanner name appears behind the FireWire label. If not, check the cable connection/scanner and disconnect the FireWire cable, wait 5 seconds and connect it again. Use Command + R to refresh.

For USB:
The scanner name (or Agfa) appears behind the USB label. If not, check the cable connection and scanner.

Does DuoScan f40 (FireWire) work in combination with DUAL processor Macs on OS X?

NO, DuoScan f40 (FireWire) doesn't work in combination with DUAL processor Macs on OS X.

However DuoScan f40 (FireWire) functions well with single processor under OSX. If you have a dual processor, you still can use the scanner under OS9 .
There will be no fix for this problem.

Can I use OCR in ScanWise X on Mac OS X?

There were only a few OS X native OCR applications available when we released our software. FineReader and OmniPage X do work if you scan a file as destination. Scanning directly to Microsoft Word has problems. We do not recommend to scan to an OCR application or text destination that runs in Classic mode.

Is there support for UFS formatted volumes?

ScanWise and FotoLook do work on a UFS formatted volume, however they will NOT work if the startup disk is UFS formatted.

Which SCSI cards are supported for Mac OS X?

There are currenly not so many SCSI cards that do work with Mac OS X and scanners. Our scanners were tested with AttoTech ExpressPCI PSC, Adaptec 2906, Adaptec 2930, and Initio Bluenote. The Initio Bluenote card needs the latest firmware update (at least version 3.04). Check our ReadMe files for more scanner-specific details.

Remarks:

  • Arcus 1200: not with AttoExpress PCI PSC.
  • SnapScan 1236s, SnapScan 1236 Artline: only with Adaptec 2906 and Initio Bluenote.
  • DuoScan T2000XL: only with Initio Bluenote.
  • DuoScan: not with Adaptec 2906.

How to make FotoLook 3.6 work on Mac OS 10.3

In order to make FotoLook 3.6 work on OS 10.3, you need to replace some sytem files by older system files from OS 10.2.8.
This action is only recommended if you really want to use your scanner on 10.3. A better and safer solution is to keep a partition with 10.2.x and use your scanner on that partition.
First make a backup of your system folder before proceeding. Modifications on system/library can destabilize your system.
If you are familiar with Terminal, make yourself root user and copy the following two files from an old 10.2.8 into the system folder of 10.3
IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily.kext
IOSCSIParallelFamily.kext
Location: System/Library/Extensions
If you are not familiar with Terminal:
First you need the files IOSCSIArchitectureModelFamily.kext and IOSCSIParallelFamily.kext, from a OSX 10.2.8 system.
  • On OS10.3 start Applications/utilities/NetInfo Manager
  • Security/Authenticate (administrator password needed)
  • Security/Enable Root User (set Root Password)
  • System preferences/ select your account/ login options:Display Login Window as: Name and password
  • Log Out
  • Log In as root
  • Copy the above mentioned 10.2.8 files to System/Library/Extensions (overwrite the newer 10.3 files)
  • Log out as root/ log in as normal user

Digital Cameras

Where can I find drivers for my Agfa digital camera?

http://www.agfa.com/digicam_scanner_drivers/

I can't load my pictures from my camera (Windows XP)

Probably you will have problems on Windows XP, using the old software for your camera. As since september 2001 AGFA finished all digital camera activities, for most models we don't have suitable drivers for XP. I advice you to buy a card reader for your smartmedia card or compact flash card, you can find them in numerous brands. So you can directly load your pictures on PC, and you don't have to connect your camera to the PC any more.

Where can I find a manual for my digital camera?

http://www.agfa.com/digicam_scanner_drivers/

I cannot make a connection between PC and camera

  • connect the camera with the PC and switch the camera on.
  • Start/ Control Panel/ System/ Hardware tab/ Device Manager/ Look for the camera in imaging devices (scanners/ cameras). If you can see an exclamation mark next to the camera, this means that the camera is not installed well.
  • Click right mouse button on camera icon and choose Update Driver, instal from a list or specific location/ browse to Windows/system32 and click OK,
  • on Windows XP you can have the warning that this software doesn't have the "digital signature" (Windows Logo test) that XP needs to work properly. You have the choice to continue or stop the installation. Click on the "Continue Anyway" button, the installation will not harm or destabilize your system.
  • after that, Windows should find the right drivers for your camera.

If this doesn’t solve the problem, uninstall and install drivers again:

  • connect the camera with the PC and switch the camera on.
  • Start/ Control Panel/ System/ Hardware tab/ Device Manager/ Look for the camera in imaging devices (scanners/ cameras). If you can see an exclamation mark next to the camera, this means that the camera is not installed well.
  • Click right mouse button on the camera, select uninstall to remove the drivers.
  • disconnect camera
  • install drivers again (Agfa software/drivers: http://www.agfa.com/digicam_scanner_drivers/
  • connect and switch on camera
  • on Windows XP you can have the warning that this software doesn't have the "digital signature" (Windows Logo test) that XP needs to work properly. You have the choice to continue or stop the installation. Click on the "Continue Anyway" button, the installation will not harm or destabilize your system.

!!! Important: CL18 software is a twain driver only, this means that you can only use it if you first start an imaging application such as Photoshop, VideoImpression, .... and then start the twain driver via File/ Acquire image.
